Lamichhane elected President, Giree Vice-President of Social Workers’ Association Nepal (SWAN)

Kathmandu, April 12 – The Social Workers’ Association Nepal (SWAN) successfully wrapped up its Annual General Assembly and Fifth Convention on Saturday, culminating in the election of a new executive team.

SWAN, affiliated with the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW), represents Nepali social work professionals who hold at least a bachelor’s degree in the field from recognized institutions.

Founded in 2013, SWAN appointed Pratik Sharma Lamichhane as its fourth president. Lamichhane, a PhD scholar and assistant professor at Tribhuvan University, will now lead the organization. Alongside him, Saroj Giree, also an assistant professor and doctoral candidate at Tribhuvan University and Head of department at Golden Gate International College, was elected as vice-president.

Other elected officials include Sudip Lama Waiba as general secretary, Pragati Khadka as secretary, and Rajeshman Singh Shrestha as treasurer. The newly formed seven-member executive committee also features Sunita Bisunkhi and Anima Shrestha.

The program took place at St. Lawrence College under the leadership of outgoing president Sukrita Rai. SWAN’s founding president, Dr. Dilliram Adhikari, attended as the chief guest.

Since joining the IFSW in 2017, SWAN has remained dedicated to advancing professional social work in Nepal through education, advocacy, and community-centered practice.
